MLB Ejection 039: Joe West (2; Ron Gardenhire)

3B Umpire Joe West ejected Twins Manager Ron Gardenhire for arguing an interference (out) call in the bottom of the 4th inning of the Twins-Tigers game. With one out and three on, Tigers batter Andrew Romine hit a 0-1 fastball from Twins pitcher Samuel Deduno on the ground to shortstop, where it hit Tigers baserunner R2 Austin Jackson, resulting in a dead ball and the following base awards and penalties: R3 Victor Martinez was returned to third base, R2 Jackson was declared out, R1 Alex Avila was forced to advance to second base because BR Romine was credited with a single. Replays indicate the batted ball hit Jackson, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the Tigers were leading, 2-0. The Twins ultimately won the contest, 4-3.

This is Joe West (22)'s second ejection of the 2014 MLB Regular Season.
Joe West now has 5 points in the UEFL Standings (2 Previous + 2 MLB + 1 Correct [Crewmate] = 5).
Crew Chief Joe West now has 7 points in the UEFL's Crew Division (6 Previous + 1 Correct = 7).
*Rule 7.08(f) states, in part, the runner is out when "He is touched by a fair ball in fair territory before the ball has touched or passed an infielder. The ball is dead and no runner may score, nor runners advance, except runners forced to advance." This specific rule does not provide for the umpire's interpretation, judgment or award of a double play.

This is the 39th ejection of the 2014 MLB Regular Season.
