MLB Replay Reviews 664-665: Schrieber, T Barrett (09, 10)

Instant Replay Review overturned 1B Umpire Paul Schrieber's safe call in the top of the 3rd and upheld 2B Umpire Ted Barrett's safe call in the bottom of the 8th inning of the Cubs-Nationals game. In the 3rd, with none out and none on, Cubs batter Ryan Sweeney hit a ground ball to Nationals second baseman Anthony Rendon, who threw to first baseman Adam LaRoche as Sweeney arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Nationals Manager Matt Williams, Schrieber's ruling was affirmed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the Nationals were leading, 1-0.

In the 8th, with none out and none on, Nationals batter Denard Span hit a line drive to Cubs right fielder Nate Schierholtz, who threw to shortstop Starlin Castro as Span slid into second base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Cubs Manager Rick Renteria, Barrett's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the game was tied, 1-1. The Nationals ultimately won the contest, 2-1.
