MLB Instant Replay Review 156: Tim Timmons (05)

Instant Replay Review confirmed 1B Umpire Tim Timmons' safe call in the bottom of the 9th inning of the Rays-White Sox game. With one out and three on, White Sox batter Adam Eaton hit a 0-1 slider from Rays pitcher Grant Balfour on the ground to second baseman Ben Zobrist, who tossed to shortstop Yunel Escobar to first baseman James Loney as Eaton arrived at first base, Adrian Nieto out at second. Upon Instant Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Rays Manager Joe Maddon, Timmons' ruling that Loney did not catch the ball and tag first base prior to Eaton's touch arrival was confirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Rays were leading, 6-5. The White Sox ultimately won the contest, 9-6.
