Historical Ejections: Joe West, Jerry Layne (Tony Gwynn)

Historical ejection reports of Padres RF Tony Gwynn's two career MLB ejections (Joe West, Jerry Layne):

April 17, 1988: HP Umpire Joe West ejected Padres RF Tony Gwynn for arguing a strike two call in the bottom of the 3rd inning of the Giants-Padres game. With none out and one on, Gwynn took two consecutive pitches from Giants pitcher Kelly Downs for called first and second strikes. At the time of the ejection, the Padres were leading, 2-0. The Giants ultimately won the contest, 9-4.

August 4, 1989
: 3B Umpire Jerry Layne ejected Padres RF Tony Gwynn for arguing a strike three (swinging) call in the top of the 1st inning of the Padres-Dodgers game. With one out and one on, Gwynn attempted to check his swing on a pitch by Dodgers pitcher John Wetteland. At the time of the ejection, the contest was tied, 0-0. The Dodgers ultimately won the contest, 6-3.

This was Joe West (22)'s first ejection of 1988 .
This was Jerry Layne (24)'s third ejection of 1989 (third career MLB, rookie year as PCL Fill-In).
