MLB Replay Reviews 517-518: Hamari, Layne (05, 07)

Instant Replay Review confirmed 1B Umpire Adam Hamari's out call in the bottom of the 4th and upheld HP Umpire Jerry Layne's out call in the top of the 8th inning of the Blue Jays-Orioles game. In the 4th, with none out and none on, Orioles batter Adam Jones hit a 2-2 slider from Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ on the ground to third baseman Brett Lawrie, who threw to first baseman Edwin Encarnacion as Jones arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Orioles Manager Buck Showalter, Hamari's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Blue Jays were leading, 2-0.

In the 8th, with none out and none on, Blue Jays batter Lawrie hit a 0-0 fastball from Orioles pitcher Tommy Hunter on the ground to shortstop J.J. Hardy, who threw to catcher Nick Hundley as Jays baserunner R3 Jose Bautista slid into home plate. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Blue Jays Manager John Gibbons, Layne's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Blue Jays were leading, 3-1. The Blue Jays ultimately won the contest, 5-2.
